About us

For parents of individuals with special needs, the question “Where will my child live after I am gone?” is a constant source of worry. It’s a fear that many of us carry daily, and one that feels overwhelming. In the past, many individuals with special needs didn’t outlive their parents, so this concern was less urgent. But today, it’s a reality we can no longer ignore.

 

In 2022, a group of parents—just like you—came together to address this challenge. We are parents of semi-independent, neurodiverse adult children who need a supportive, intentional community to thrive. We want our children to have a place to call home—somewhere safe, valued, and supported for the long term. We’re committed to making that vision a reality.

 

With Texas ranking among the lowest states for services for individuals with disabilities, we’re focused on creating a model that is both affordable and sustainable. Our goal is to give families peace of mind, knowing their loved ones will be cared for after they’re gone.

 

As an all-volunteer organization, we’ve spent the last two years researching housing models and raising awareness. Our annual pickleball tournament is one of the ways we engage the community and raise funds for this cause.

 

In 2023, we visited WeBUILT in Clackamas, OR, to learn from their successful model. We’re now working to adapt that model for North Texas, creating a hybrid approach that includes both rental and ownership options.

 

In 2024, we launched the WeBUILT Friendships social group, giving our future community members a chance to connect and build relationships before we have a property. It’s been inspiring to see these friendships grow, and we welcome anyone who shares our vision to join us.
